Vision Statement: Educating for equal opportunities in northern Tanzania.
Mission Statement: To raise awareness and funds to support our Tanzanian partners in providing educational and micro business opportunities for girls and women.
Northern Tanzania is home to some of the country’s poorest people. Girls are married early, often at age 13, and have no chance of pursuing secondary education. Women have limited opportunities to provide for their families. The area of Longido District experiences serious drought that causes undue hardship for the Maasai as they work to sustain their cattle, the predominant source of income in a pastoralist society.
TEMBO Canada works to address these issues through a sponsorship program for girls, a women’s microfinance loan program and goat project, and informal education initiatives offered by staff at the Longido District Learning Centre.

TEMBO (Tanzania) also oversees the TEMBO Guesthouse, a small business that provides accommodation in Longido village.
LIL is a a registered Tanzanian NGO that oversees the delivery of informal education programs for all ages and manages the Longido District Learning Centre.

Learning in Longido is governed by a Board of Directors and employs local staff to coordinate programs. The staff includes four local Maasai women funded through LiL and three certified teachers funded through a formal partnership with Longido District. Together, the staff and Board of Directors direct and coordinate programs in response to community needs.
